The Divine Messenger is the figure Temerity met in a vision on 8 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, while praying in Rhysaene’s house in Argentum. Temerity took it to be the embodiment of the Silver Flame.1
Description
Appearance
A massive humanoid figure about twelve feet tall, with pale silver skin, no hair, ears more pointed than an elf’s, and eyes that are two orbs of glowing silver light with no pupils or irises.1 A crown of burning silver fire hovers around its head. It wears gleaming full plate with a dragon’s spread wings on the front, and massive silver-feathered wings curl back behind it.1 One arm is gauntleted and armored all the way up. The other is bare, an arm and hand of solid, almost liquid platinum covered in dragon scale, with a dragon’s claw at the end of each finger.1 A gleaming silver sword hangs at its side, bigger than a greatsword would be in Temerity’s hands.1
Its voice echoes, neither feminine nor masculine but hardened, deep and resonant, and Temerity felt it in her bones as well as her ears.1 She found it hard to look at, and suspected its spiritual presence would have been unbearable had it not been confined to the back of her mind.1
Biography
Session 18
Temerity sought guidance in prayer, and in the dark and quiet found herself standing in a grove edged with tall pines, a massive tree with silver leaves at its middle and a spring trickling out of the ground behind her.1 The figure stood on the other side of the tree and told her to come forth. Its presence was one she had never felt before, yet somehow familiar, very much like what resides within her.1 When she dropped to one knee, its stoic face softened into a smile and it told her to stand. It said it had watched her for a long time, but this was the first time she had called out to it. It would answer what it could, though there was much it could not say.1
Asked whether her friends’ magic was harmful, it told her that what her kind call the Starfall brought out the darkness within the hearts of all mortal kind, and that certain magic could be devastating to the protections within the Silver Vale, but nothing it had sensed since it began watching her rose to that level.1 Of purification, it said it was not divine edict, nor wholly uncalled for, and that how mortal kind comport themselves in troubled times is for them to devise.1 It said that when she came back to life in the cold of winter years before, she had come back with what it suspected was a belief that she was chosen for a great purpose, and asked whether she still held it. She did.1
It told her the flame within her was her birthright to wield, and that she was chosen by divine providence to be a champion against the Sorrow. Of the Fardrimm, it said it did not concern itself with ancient roads carved by mortal men.1 Last, it asked whether she had chosen the name Temerity for herself. When she said she had, it wished it could have chosen it for her.1
When Temerity woke, her necklace, her holy emblem, had burned through her clothes without hurting her. She told Hazel she thought she had seen the embodiment of the Silver Flame.1
