Gammon lies quickly and badly. Caught with Lamai Tyenmo’s onions, he said she had stolen them first; asked where they came from, he said the onion store; asked for a receipt, he offered recipes, and then asked for a pen to write one himself.1 When Hazel said that getting caught is very embarrassing, he agreed that part was true.1

On the evening of 9 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, Gammon ran from Lamai through the market with a bunch of her green onions, crashed into Luma’s back, and landed on the ground in a scatter of onions.1 Luma got him to give them back. He had only done it, he said, because Lamai was sabotaging his mom’s business.1
