Lamai loses her temper fast and recovers it when there is something to gain. Called a scoundrel by Kusa, she screamed the word back in a rage, then calmed herself and told Luma she did not look wrapped up in market politics.1 She makes big claims for herself: she says she is incredibly popular with the council, and offered to teach Luma the Mobius noodle, a family secret Kusa called a physical impossibility.1 She owns the feud. When Kusa said Lamai had hated her family for generations, Lamai said the feeling was mutual.1

On the evening of 9 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, Lamai chased Gammon Xungoon through the market after he ran off with a bunch of green onions she had grown.1 She told Luma that Kusa’s child kept stealing from her cart and sabotaging her business, and offered a hundred crowns and a lifetime supply of noodles for her help.1 When Luma turned the offer down, Lamai agreed to put in a good word for her stall if she proved it was Kusa, and shook hands with Kusa on a truce until it was settled.1
