Canal Market Merchants Council

The Canal Market Merchants Council is the council of the merchants of the Canal Markets in Argentum.¹ It is not formally a guild. Vi Aroon called it a loose collective.¹

Organization

The council has no building.¹ Its members include Vi Aroon and his brother Kasem Aroon of the Spicy Brothers, Madam Kulp, Lamai Tyenmo, Kusa Xungoon, Vada, and Va, who sells trinkets and jewels.¹ Madam Kulp is very respected, and Lamai says she is incredibly popular with the other members.¹ The members count one another as family.¹

Activities

The city requires a permit to trade at the market, and the council arranges it for anyone on its good side.¹ It charges no dues. Merchants pay rent on their sites, a small fee, and taxes.¹ A merchant could go to the city for a permit instead, but would then be on the bad side of pretty much everyone at the market.¹

Luma learned of the council on 9 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, while looking into a stall of her own.¹ Kusa and Lamai each promised her a good word if she proved the other was sabotaging her stall.¹ Kasem said he could probably put in a good word if she proved compatible with the market, and Madam Kulp promised hers.¹
