Kasem Aroon

Kasem Aroon is a human merchant in Argentum who owns the Spicy Brothers stall at the Canal Markets with his brother, Vi Aroon, and is to become its sole proprietor when Vi retires.¹ He is a member of the Canal Market Merchants Council.¹

Description

Appearance

Kasem is basically identical to his brother, but dresses in green silks with a red sash.¹

Personality

Kasem wants the market to be a place of business, and has no patience for its traditions. He called his brother’s pepper challenge a silly old tradition, a game and a gimmick, wished the market would leave such vapid traditions behind, and told Temerity that the church she had helped run was not a business, since it charged no one.¹ He talks down to people. He called Luma “Mr. Doormaker”, and offered his good word only if she proved compatible with the quality and atmosphere the market wanted.¹ He dismissed the feud between Kusa Xungoon and Lamai Tyenmo as petty nonsense, and declared them both guilty with no proof.¹ When Iva suggested that less competition would help, he glared at her, and he called Hazel’s suggestion that he disliked his brother outrageous.¹

Biography

Session 19

On 9 Nightdeep, 1714 PSF, Kasem came to the party after the argument over the onions and offered them a tour of the market, to take their minds off it.¹ He told them Vi was retiring to marry and start a family, and that the business would have trouble keeping up with half the talent.¹ He would not join the pepper challenge, and took the party on the tour afterwards, to Madam Kulp's Silk.¹ There he watched the caterpillars flee, raised an eyebrow, and went outside to wait.¹ Madam Kulp was surprised he was giving a tour. She thought she had seen him feeding oranges to something behind his tent, though when she looked nothing was there.¹ Vi said he had fought with his brother earlier that day.¹ The party came away suspicious of him. Luma noted him as suspicious, and Iva was certain he was the one behind the sabotage.¹
